Spotlight on Quality Sale
Same place,
but new and improved!!! The 2006 Spotlight on Quality Sale will again be
held at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth the last weekend in
October. All SOQ events will be on Saturday. There will be a CJSA sponsored
Jackpot Show on Sunday. The Heifer and Steer Sweepstakes classes will also
be on Sunday, allowing entries sold the previous day to be shown. We look
for this day to increase attendance in the weekend.
If you can, remember to bring an item or two for the wildly popular silent
auction that is held during the dinner on Saturday night. Most importantly
though, remember to tell a local junior or neighbor about the sale and its
great opportunities to invest in Shorthorn genetics!

President's Message
By: Gary Witte
Summer has
arrived! Temperatures in the high desert of Nevada are reaching towards
three digits, and the cattle are seeking shade trees, as are we. It is the
farming time of year, with swathers, bailers, and tractors hard at work to
provide winter feed for our cattle. A busy time of year, that has brought
the death of one of our own. Roy Coates, husband of Janie Coates, passed
6/13/2006 after suffering injuries from a tractor accident. Roy was a true
gentleman and lover of Shorthorn cattle. We will miss his presence at sales
and shows, his competitive spirit, and his friendship. Our sincere thoughts
and prayers go to Janie.
Entries: You
will find enclosed with this newsletter entry forms for this years Spotlight
on Quality Sale. The consignments over the past few years have consistently
improved in quality, as reflected in higher sale prices. Keep it up!
On the SOQ
Sale weekend we are looking at some changes so stay tuned, and please be at
the State Fair meeting with input and or comments as to ways we can improve
the weekend with show of sale cattle, barn party, sale, Dinner and this year
a Junior show all need your help and input to make them the best.
Although
Pegi and I were unable to attend the festivities at Merced this Spring, I
thank all who participated and enjoyed the beautiful Spring day, great food,
good friends, and excellent set of cattle presented by the Juniors.
CA State
fair is coming up soon. Hope to see all of you either in the ring or
supporting them from the sidelines.
We have an
outstanding set of Juniors and their cattle going back to the Junior
National Show. Best of luck and I hope all have a great time. Moms and Dads
remember it's the JUNIOR NATIONAL show!
Best Regards,
Gary Witte

Shorthorn
Websites!!!
The CSBA website is up and running although I have not been doing a very
good job of keeping it up to date and interesting. The newsletter is always
posted there so you can refer potential Shorthorn Association members to it.
Tim Whitfield has put a Calendar of Events on there for us to keep updated
that we will get to work on. Web site is:
Californiashorthornbreeders.org
The SOQ Sale Catalog will be online this fall and be available to be
downloaded and printed. The current CSBA membership is there also. If you
aren’t on it, you haven’t paid your dues!
If you are interested in advertising on either or both websites please
contact Tim Whitfield at tim@whitfieldenterprises.com and he can help you
out.
