Spotlight on Quality Sale
AMADOR
COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS
By Greg Cardey
Same place, but different dates!!! The 2005 Spotlight on Quality Sale
will again be held at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth but the sale
will be the last weekend in October. Due to Cow Palace moving to the spring we
are taking advantage of an open weekend in the fall to hold the sale.
The
schedule for the weekend will also be the same as last year. We are looking
forward to another successful sale and all-around enjoyable weekend.
If you can, remember to bring an item or two for the wildly popular silent
auction that is held during the dinner on Saturday night. Most importantly
though, remember to tell a local junior or neighbor about the sale and its great
opportunities to invest in Shorthorn genetics!

President's Report
By Gary Witte
Where did
the spring go? Summer is upon us here in the High Desert of Nevada, and with it
all the various farming activities of irrigating, cutting hay and best of all,
watching those Spring calves grow into possible show prospects.
Yes, fellow Shorthorn breeders, it is that time of year again. Look
carefully at your calf crop for those special heifers and steers that will raise
the standard at our annual Spotlight on Quality Sale this October. Your
attention to that word “quality” is the key to continued improvement in the
animals we offer as a breed association sale. It doesn’t hurt to start talking
now with prospective buyers at every fair and jackpot you attend, especially as
you note the Shorthorn and Shorthorn influenced calves that are ever present at
the top of classes and divisions.
We at Witte Shorthorns hope that your summer is going well and that you’ll
find the time to attend and support 4-H and FFA youth at local fairs and shows
whether there’s a Shorthorn in the ring or not. The youth are our future in the
cattle industry.
Please get those consignment forms submitted as soon as possible. As you
will notice, the Sale date has been set for the last weekend in October.
Catalogs need to be printed and distributed as soon as we can get your entries.
We are looking forward to seeing you all this October and with luck
somewhere along the way before then.
Best Regards,
Gary Witte

The California Senior and Junior Shorthorn Associations have
entered a new age in technology! Feel free to check out our websites at
www.californiashorthornjuniors.org for the juniors and
www.californiashorthornbreeders.org for the senior’s website. Newsletters
will be emailed from now on to those who I have email addresses for and the
newsletter will also be posted on the website. If you are still receiving the
newsletter by mail I don’t have your email address! Please send it to me, you
will get information quicker and the Association will save on postage.
The SOQ Sale Catalog will be online this fall and be available to be
downloaded and printed. The current CSBA membership is there also. If you
aren’t on it, you haven’t paid your dues!
If you are interested in advertising on either or both websites please
contact Tim Whitfield at
tim@whitfieldenterprises.com and he can help you out.

Sale Entries Due Soon!!
This is your first
reminder that sale entries for the Spotlight on Quality Sale are due in to Greg
Cardey by August 1st. It is very important that we get the entries in on time!
The sale committee (Alpha Gipe, Don Cardey, Greg Cardey) would like to be able
to begin distributing sale catalogs at the California State Fair (Aug. 15th)
this year to increase visibility of the sale. Entry forms are included with
this newsletter.
If you are interested in
being a part of the SOQ ad in the Shorthorn Country, please call Alpha Gipe as
he will be coordinating the ad. Heifers shown at the State Fair can probably
have pictures taken there for the ad.
If you have questions
call Alpha Gipe at 209-358-9377 or Greg Cardey at 209-386-0409.
